Oscar Winner ‘Parasite’ Is Leaving Netflix Soon. Here’s Where You Can Stream It

Parasite is one of the most critically acclaimed films of the past decade. In 2019, it was the first non-English language film to win a Best Picture Oscar, and in a 2025 New York Times poll of more than 500 actors, directors and other Hollywood insiders, it was also named the best film of the 21st century (so far).

The South Korean film, written and directed by Bong Joon Ho, is a dark comedy, a social satire, and a grim, violent thriller all at once. The film is about an underprivileged family who con their way into employment in the household of a wealthy family. When they learn there’s another unexpected secret hidden in the family’s basement, things devolve into bloody chaos.

Parasite isn’t the only Best Picture Oscar winner available on Netflix — the streamer also carries films like Forrest Gump, Titanic and The Hurt Locker — but it’s so widely regarded and beloved that I think it added a bit of prestige to the platform. The film has become a reliable mainstay, sticking around for a year, which is longer than many films do.

So now that Parasite is leaving Netflix on Jan. 31, where can you watch it? We know of one place, and the great news is it’s one of our favorite free streaming platforms, Kanopy, which has become a reliable place to watch all the best indie movies from film houses like A24 and Neon (which produced Parasite), plus it has tons of content for kids, TV shows and classic movies. And unlike many free services, it’s all ad-free. All you need is a library card.

While it’s a bummer that Netflix is losing Parasite, the film isn’t disappearing from streaming completely, and you can even make a movie marathon out of it. Kanopy’s library also includes a few of Bong Joon Ho’s other films, like Mother, Barking Dogs Never Bite, and The Host, too.
