Best Memorial Day Smart Home Deals: Save Big on Home Upgrades

Memorial Day is one of the best times of the year to buy TVs, appliances and other big home items. But it’s also a great chance to nab smaller smart home devices that can make a huge difference, including home security products, smart thermostats, smart plugs and more.

I’ve collected the best Memorial Day deals for these advanced devices right here, highlighting just how much you’ll save. This year, these deals go up to 40% off and even higher for some of the top tech I’ve tested, so check carefully to see if there’s a home upgrade you’ve been wanting to make.

Best overall Memorial Day smart home sales

Blink Outdoor 4 Security Camera: $44

Blink’s 1080p wireless camera is one of the best starting places for all-purpose outdoor home security. The batteries last well over a year, the Blink app is very easy to set up and the camera comes with its own hub so you don’t need to buy any add-ons to make it work (unless you want to upgrade to local storage).

You will need a subscription if you want to use cloud storage or Blink’s AI features, starting at $4 per month.

Blink Video Doorbell: $30

Blink’s doorbell was already affordable, but this deal makes it one of the least expensive ways to get eyes on your front door and any packages that may be left there. It also uses Blink’s powerful battery technology that can help batteries last up to two years, plus Blink’s easy-to-use app. Just keep in mind you’ll need a Sync Module hub to set this doorbell up, which makes it a good purchase in conjunction with other Blink products.

Arlo 2nd-Gen Video Doorbell: $50

Arlo’s doorbell is one of my favorites, both for its excellent design and the higher-than-usual 2K resolution to get better details for your porch and yard. Arlo’s app is excellent and offers customizable detection zones and other helpful settings. I chose the battery version for this deal because wireless models are much more versatile, but there’s a wired option, too. Keep in mind, you’ll need an $8 Arlo subscription to enable important features such as video storage.

Ta[o P110M Smart Plug Mini 4-Pack: $36

Tapo’s set of plugs is a great way to give smart features to plug-in devices around your home, letting you control and schedule them with an app. Since these plugs have full Matter compatibility, they can work easily with your platform of choice, such as Alexa, Apple Home or Google Home. The small size also helps ensure they’ll fit in tighter spaces than some plugs.

Google Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen): $240

Google’s thermostat is one of the most advanced and beautiful thermostats I’ve tested. It does everything from automatically adjusting temperatures based on your routines to showing animations of the outside weather. It even comes with a separate satellite sensor you can put in areas you want the thermostat to “watch” more carefully than others. While this thermostat is usually quite expensive, this deal makes it a a great time to buy it. Plus, from my own experience using eco modes and similar functions, the thermostat pays for itself within a couple of years.

Philips Hue Starter Kit: Bridge Pro + 4 Smart Bulbs: $205

Philips smart bulbs need a hub to enable their full set of features, but that’s not a problem with this four-bulb kit and hub combo. The latest Bridge device has new tricks, such as using several bulbs in the same room to offer a presence-sensing function, turning lights on automatically when people enter.

These bulbs can dim, change to any color you want (the Hue app is full of inventive color profiles, too) and work with common voice assistants, among other tricks.

Eufy is one of the best brands if you’d like to avoid subscriptions and monthly fees to enable features. This camera supports local storage and has useful object recognition without costing anything extra. The 2K resolution is also nice to see here, but the real standout is the built-in solar panel, which helps keep the battery on this wireless camera charged.

Should I buy smart home devices on Memorial Day?

Whether you’re just embarking on your smart home journey or want to add some pieces to your current setup, there are a lot of great smart home devices on the market, but not all are “cheap.” So if you get a chance to save money on something you’ve been eyeing during Memorial Day sales, it’s probably worth taking it.

Where are the best Memorial Day smart home sales?

Your best bets for finding deals this Memorial Day are likely to be Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart. Keep an eye out for deals at other retailers, such as B&H, Target and Costco. I’ve also seen some good deals at Home Depot and Lowes. Be vigilant when considering a deal, and research what a product usually sells for to make sure you’re actually getting a bargain.

How we choose the best Memorial Day smart home deals

Many of us here at CNET have covered shopping events for over five years, including Black Friday, Prime Day, Memorial Day and countless other shopping events. We’ve gotten good at weeding out scams and superficial deals, so you see only the best offers from all over.

We look for real discounts, quality reviews and remaining sale time when choosing smart home deals to show you. We have a team of devoted experts who have tested thousands of smart home devices to make sure we’re only bringing you the best of the best.

  • Real discounts mean exactly that. We look at the price history for a product to make sure no brands are inflating prices to make the discount seem more substantial than it is.
  • Quality reviews and testing are important for any product, but more so when it comes to the smart home devices used in your space. If you’re unhappy when it arrives, the discount wasn’t worthwhile.
  • Remaining sale time is a huge part of our vetting process. If a deal seems like it will only be around for a short while or will only be available for the remaining stock, we’ll let you know upfront so you don’t come back to the deal later only to be disappointed.
