This year brought a whole host of innovative new pet tech, including smart collars and pet sitters. Among them is this smart bird feeder that’s equipped with a camera. At $230, the Netvue Birdfy is expensive, even as a unique holiday gift, but the company has dropped prices ahead of Black Friday, meaning you can score this solar smart bird feeder for $145 on Amazon right now. That’s an $85 discount on a clever device that’s sure to provide hours of amusement.
This solar-powered bird feeder has a 1080p smart camera that supports full-color night vision. The camera is centered on the feeder to optimize your view, and you can watch a live video feed of birds at the feeder or snap still images. The Birdfy app has an AI feature that helps identify the bird species from the images and allows you to easily share the images with friends and family.

The Netvue Birdfy deal is offered by Woot via Amazon and applies to two colors: blue and yellow. It features a sheltered spot for birds to land and enough space to hold over 6 cups of food at once (1.5 liters).
If you’re hoping to spend a little less, Amazon currently also has the battery-operated version for $130, down from its usual $200 price tag, when you clip the on-page coupon. You get all of the same features, minus the solar panel, meaning you’ll just have to remember to charge it periodically or risk missing out on some feathered friends.

Why this deal matters
A friend of mine received one of these as a gift and she has regaled me with images ever since, including images of several species of songbirds and hilarious up-close imagery of one extremely intrepid squirrel. At a starting price of $230, this might feel like a bit of an indulgence for something that might be more of a novelty item for anyone but a hard-core birder. But when you drop that price by 37% to under $150, it becomes more justifiable. And I can tell you the hours of joy and hilarity it has brought us is worth at least that.
