Thursday Night Football: How to Watch 49ers vs. Rams Tonight

When to watch the San Francisco 49ers vs. LA Rams

  • Thursday, Oct. 2, at 8:15 p.m. ET (5:15 p.m. PT).

Where to watch

  • The 49ers and Rams game will stream live on Prime Video and free on Twitch. Fans in the home markets of each team can also watch on a local channel.

We have a good one tonight for Thursday Night Football. The 49ers and Rams are tied atop the NFC West at 3-1 with the Seattle Seahawks.

The 49ers have been winning despite a rash of injuries to key players. Backup QB Mac Jones will start again in place of Brock Purdy, who will miss another game with a toe injury. The 49ers also will be without its top two receivers in Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall as well as star tight end George Kittle. You can expect Christian McCaffrey to be heavily involved in the 49ers’ offense attack tonight.

The Rams are the healthier team heading into tonight’s game, with Matthew Stafford still playing at a high level in his 17th NFL season and Puka Nacua leading the the league in receptions and receiving yards through the first month of the season.

The Niners and Rams kick off tonight at 8:15 p.m. ET (5:15 p.m. PT). The game will stream nationally on Prime Video and free on Twitch. Fans in the San Francisco and Los Angeles markets can watch on a local TV station but the rest of the country will need to stream it on Prime Video or Twitch.

How to watch 49ers vs. Rams game

Tonight’s game will stream nationally on Prime Video, giving NFL fans more incentive than free two-day shipping to sign up for an Amazon Prime account, which costs $15 a month or $139 a year. You can also subscribe only to Prime Video for $9 a month.

If you don’t pay for either of Amazon’s services you can watch free on Prime Video’s Twitch channel. (Twitch is also owned by Amazon.)

You can also use NFL Plus, the league’s $7-per-month streaming service (or $15 a month with Red Zone included), to stream the game without subscribing to Prime or Prime Video. Note that NFL Plus viewing is limited to watching on just a phone or tablet, not on a computer or TV.

Amazon

You can watch tonight’s game and the rest of the Thursday Night Football slate this season on Prime Video. For millions of Amazon Prime subscribers, the Prime Video channel is already included at no extra cost. But if you’re not an Amazon Prime subscriber, it might be worth it to shell out the $9 a month for the stand-alone Prime Video service, not only for football but also its impressive selection of shows and movies.

Can I watch the 49ers-Rams game on local TV?

Yes, Niners and Rams fans in the local markets of each team will be able to watch the game on an over-the-air station. For this game, that’s Fox 2 (KTVU) in San Francisco and Fox 11 (KTTV) in Los Angeles, according to 506 Sports.

There are two ways to watch local channels on your TV without cable or satellite TV. The first is with a live TV streaming service. The second is with an over-the-air antenna if you live in an area with good reception.

Each of the five major live TV streaming services carry Fox but not every service carries every local network, so check each one using the links below to make sure it carries Fox in your area.

Sling/CNET

Fubo

Fubo’s main package costs $85 per month but it has a new skinny bundle that includes most of the channels you need for the NFL. This new Fubo Sports plan costs $56 per month ($46 for the first month) and includes Fox along with ABC and CBS (but not NBC) in addition to ESPN and NFL Network. It also includes access to ESPN’s new streaming app. Click here to see which local channels you get in your region with Fubo. Read our Fubo review.

DirecTV Stream

Sarah Tew/CNET

For $83 a month, you’ll get all the major football channels with YouTube TV, including Fox. Plug in your ZIP code on YouTube TV’s welcome page to see which local networks are available in your area.

Hulu Plus Live TV costs $83 and includes Fox in most markets along with the rest of the channels you need to watch the NFL on Sundays and Monday nights this season. On its live news page, you can enter your ZIP code under the “Can I watch local news in my area?” question at the bottom of the page to see which local channels you get. All the live TV streaming services above allow you to cancel anytime and require a solid internet connection. Looking for more information? Check out our live TV streaming services guide.
