This Automatic Smart Pet Door Only Lets In Your Dog or Cat

My dog, an adorable 70-pound Lab mix, is perfect in every way. But I admittedly thought he was a little less perfect when he once came in through a swinging dog door followed by one of the many lizards that run around my home on the Florida Gulf Coast.

That never needs to happen again.

High Tech Pet, a long-running player in automated pet access, is showcasing here at CES 2026 its recently launched Power Pet Roll-Up Door, a fully automatic, Wi-Fi-enabled smart pet door designed to address security, insulation and convenience issues common with traditional pet doors.

Unlike conventional pet doors that swing open or use flexible flaps, the Power Pet Roll-Up Door opens vertically using a motorized roll-up mechanism. When a pet wearing a compatible ultrasonic collar approaches, the door detects the signal and raises the panel to allow entry or exit, then closes behind them. Think of it as a little garage door for your dog or cat, with the opener worn on its collar.

A different approach to pet access

High Tech Pet says the vertical roll-up design helps improve insulation and security compared with flap doors, which can let in drafts and are often easy for wildlife or intruders to push through. Because the panel remains sealed when not in use, the company says it provides better resistance to weather and temperature loss, though real-world performance will ultimately depend on installation quality and how it’s used.

The door is designed for both dogs and cats, from kittens to 200-plus-pound pooches, and is available in multiple sizes and mounting options (door, wall, patio). Its vertical opening also allows it to fit in tighter spaces, including below window sills or within door panels that might not accommodate a swinging flap.

Power Pet works with smart controls and remote access

The Power Pet Roll-Up Door includes built-in Wi-Fi connectivity and works with the company’s Power Pet Door app. Through the app, you can open or close the door remotely, set access schedules and adjust modes depending on whether pets are allowed in, out or both.

Remote control is useful for owners who want to manage pet access while away from home or who prefer to keep the door locked during certain hours. As with other connected home devices, long-term reliability and app usability will be important factors, particularly for a product that controls physical access to the home.

The door still functions automatically without manual input when paired with the ultrasonic collar, which serves as the primary trigger for opening. Keep in mind that High Tech Pet has used similar collar-based systems in previous products, relying on ultrasonic signals rather than cameras or biometric recognition.

Installation and design considerations

High Tech Pet says the Power Pet Roll-Up Door can be installed in walls, patio doors or standard doors — depending on the home’s layout. Installation complexity will vary, especially for wall-mounted setups that require cutting into exterior surfaces.

Visually, the door leans toward a modern, minimal design rather than the utilitarian look typical of older pet doors. That may make it more appealing for homeowners who want pet accessories to blend in with more contemporary interiors.

The company also emphasizes security, noting that the door is designed to remain locked unless activated by a registered collar or the mobile app. This helps address a common concern for people whose homes are at ground level.

The Power Pet Roll-Up Door retails at $580, which is significantly higher than basic pet doors and even many electronic flap-based models.

High Tech Pet launched the door in November 2025, with CES 2026 serving as its first major public showcase.

A niche but growing category

Smart pet doors are still a relatively small part of the pet tech and smart home world, but they point to a broader trend we’ve been seeing at CES in recent years. In other words, automation is creeping into everyday, often overlooked tasks — like letting your pet in and out of the house. Products like the Power Pet Roll-Up Door aren’t about flashy novelty so much as small but meaningful improvements in convenience, efficiency and safety.
