What is Presidents Day?
Presidents Day is a US federal holiday. Though the holiday is known as Washington’s Birthday in honor of President George Washington, it’s now used to celebrate every US president.
When is Presidents Day 2026?
Presidents Day is always the third Monday in February. This year, it was on Feb. 16.
When do Presidents Day deals end?
Like most annual holidays, sales usually start popping up about a week or so before Presidents Day weekend, with the biggest savings over the holiday weekend and some one-day deal dropping on the event day itself. Many deals ended at the conclusion of Presidents Day, but others may linger on for a day or even for the week in some rare cases. However, at this point, deals could end at any time, so if you see something you want at the right price, grab it.
Where are the best Presidents Day sales?
Presidents Day sales happen both online and in-store, just like other major sale events. In previous years, we’ve seen huge sales at Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy and other major retailers.
What are the best things to buy during Presidents Day sales?
Tons of items went on sale, including TVs, tech and smart home gadgets, home appliances, mattresses, furniture and more. Like with all sales, some products are worth buying more than others.
Mattresses had the most savings and deals during the weekend. Some mattress companies offered Black Friday-level pricing and other impressive bargains, making this the big-ticket item of the weekend.
Winter items saw a huge price drop as well. As we near the end of the winter season, retailers tried to clear their winter stock to make room for warm-weather items, hence discounts on things like snow shovels and ice scrapers, as well as winter coats and boots.
Should I wait for Amazon’s Big Spring Sale?
Honestly, depending on what you’re looking for, it might be worth waiting for Amazon’s Big Spring Sale, which debuted in 2024. It happened again last year, though there’s no guarantee that it will return this year. If you want to buy electronics like tablets and laptops, you’d be better off waiting. Smart home gear will also see more discounts during Amazon’s Big Spring Sale, but furniture and mattresses will be easier to find during the Presidents Day sale — and some sales have lingered on, for now.
What shouldn’t I buy during Presidents Day sales?
Not all deals are worth it. Items geared toward spring and summer are worth skipping. As we approach the beginning of spring, retailers will try to convince you to buy things now, ahead of the season. Deals on items like pool accessories, patio furniture and grills won’t offer great discounts just yet. Unless you need to replace something as soon as possible, it’s not worth rushing to snag these, especially now that Presidents Day weekend is over.
