I’ve tested more video doorbells than I can count, but for the past three years or so, I’ve relied on my trusty 1080p Nest Video Doorbell battery model. It fits perfectly on my door trim, comes with a wedge to face it in the right direction instead of looking at a wall and the battery still reliably lasts for three to four months before needing a recharge. Now the same Nest model is available at Amazon’s Spring Sale for more than 20% off, bringing the price down from $180 to $140.
There are also advantages to being a Google company: Nest is able to offer three free hours of cloud video storage, which is typically enough time for me to look at notifications and see if there are any video clips I should download to save.

Why this deal matters
Nest’s object detection is also quite good, one of the most accurate I’ve ever tested on security devices, able to watch for people, packages (including if packages suddenly disappear), animals and vehicles. While more advanced video analysis isn’t available on this doorbell, I don’t think it is especially necessary and you will be getting the Gemini for Home voice assistant as it rolls out across Nest devices.
Other important features on this doorbell include the ability to shift to a live view whenever you want on the Google Home app, get a live feed on Nest displays whenever anyone rings your doorbell and switch on two-way audio if you want to have a conversation.
Now, Nest does have newer video doorbell models with tech advances, but they aren’t on sale right now and the third-gen Nest doorbell is wired only. That’s a significant disadvantage for video doorbells because your old wired doorbell may not be in a feasible spot for a video doorbell, and isn’t open to adjustments without expensive wiring work. That’s why I’m sticking with my Nest doorbell battery version, and suggest you consider it for this deal, too.
