The classic Airstream trailer is getting some sleep aesthetic updates — and new off-grid capabilities. Airstream’s new Midnight Flamingo package offers black accents on the outside, decor changes on the inside, 300 watts of solar panels built in, 200Ah of battery storage, a high-powered Klipsch audio system and more. Available on the Flying Cloud 25FB and 27FB, it’s a different spin for a brand with an iconic, and definitely traditional, look.

We took a look inside at CES 2025 and found a cozy, and rather modern-looking, interior. Hidden away was a bevy of electronics, including Battleborn batteries mounted behind the trailer hitch, a Victron charge controller, a subwoofer in a bench seat and lots of speakers.

What is a Midnight Flamingo?

I guess flamingos aren’t pink at midnight because it’s dark? Maybe it’s just a cool name. I like it, to be honest. While there’s no mistaking this trailer for an Airstream, all around the stainless exterior various elements have been blacked out, including the stone guards, bumper, various other trim bits and the storage box. Tucked away between said storage box and the trailer itself is the metal box holding the batteries.

There’s 300 watts of solar panels up top, nestled around two air conditioners. If you find yourself in place for a while and don’t want to rely on solar, there’s a 50 amp hookup for shore power. A 2000 watt inverter means you can run most home appliances, or at least, the ones that might fit in a travel trailer. Controls above the sink control the system.

Speaking of systems, the head unit for the Klipsch audio system is hidden in a cabinet above the main table. Two speakers flank it on either side here, with two more in the bedroom. A subwoofer is hidden in the bench seat next to the door. There’s also a TV here and another in the bedroom.

Between the living area and bedroom is a toilet and on the other side, a shower. Storage fills just about every other available space.

The overall design reminds me of a modern home. Not precisely to my tastes to be honest, but there are multiple options for colors and fabrics, so if you’re looking for something different there are possibilities. The fridge stores 8 cubic feet of food and bev, while the 3-burner stove runs on propane. You can choose between an oven that runs on the same, or a microwave.

No pricing was available (an annoyingly common trait at CES), but the Midnight Flamingo package will be available in the next few months.
